Lisa Wills: Spring Creek is Home

Lisa Wills

Lisa Wills attended Spring Creek School until 5th grade and then moved to Hot Springs. She remembers when school consolidation happened during her 8th grade year. Although she was not involved with the renovation of the Spring Creek School, she loves that it happened. She thinks it is a wonderful thing for the community.

Lisa remembers the long bus rides she took after school consolidation. On her first day of high school, she got very sick because she wasn’t used to the long rides. Now she works at the Hot Springs elementary school as a TA. She drives a bus there too. She said that one negative aspect of the school consolidation is that now very young kids have longer days than their working parents. Some have to get on the bus as early as 5:30am and don’t get home until 4:30. While some people say that this is preparing them for adulthood, Lisa does not think that kindergarteners or elementary schoolers should be expected to do that.

Lisa talked about her love of reading. She mostly enjoyed mysteries as a child. Some of her favorites were Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys. This picture shows the library that they created at the Spring Creek Community Center. Lisa remembers that the original library was a little further down the hallway in the school building. She’s glad that they recreated it.

Lisa was on the community clogging team. Her grandfather told her to put on a pair of clogging shoes and join, and that’s exactly what she did. She remembers everyone being very close. The youngest kids were kindergarteners, but they were all on the same team.

This is the Spring Creek Community Center, formerly the Spring Creek School. We spent an entire week here while interviewing people and exploring the area. Thank you Mr. Marvin Lowe and your family for sharing your school adventures with us.
