Barbara Rice

Barbara Rice grew up in Marshall, at the end of the bypass. She married Lou Rice, who served in the military flying cargo for the Air Force, and together they traveled the world. Her and her husband spent five years in the Middle East, specifically Saudi Arabia, where she served as a nurse in one of the hospitals. Today, she enjoys spending her time studying the history of her family and preserving the traditions and items that speak to her past and childhood.

Mrs. Rice has a unique collection of antique cookbooks and recipes, some that date back to 1927. These cookbooks not only contain recipes but include other information such as what to put in your cedar chest. Some of the books are still used by Mrs. Rice today and she finds it interesting that one of the cookbooks warns about aluminum in baking soda before that issue became a major concern. Like many women of previous generations and present times, Mrs. Rice reminisces of cutting out recipes but never organizing them. Today, she is thankful for modern technology that makes organizing and preserving recipes simple and easy
