Our Programs
In the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, PAGE is helping Appalachia’s girls and young women learn and connect in new ways.
We offer a range of opportunities designed to empower girls through innovative education. These begin with our Middle School Program as girls prepare to enter 6th grade. Since 2010, we have offered an annual summer program for girls entering middle school, where girls can learn, innovate, create, meet new friends, and develop more confidence in their strengths and skills.
In its second decade, PAGE now offers year-round learning opportunities in our Middle School and High School Programs. Girls benefit from learning and mentoring that begins in the summer prior to 6th grade and continues, year-round, through 12th grade. Each participant will have over 750 hours of program contact by the time she completes 10th grade. By the end of her seventh year in PAGE, a participant will have up to 1,000 hours of contact with our Program Director and full-year Staff, College Interns, Program Coordinators in STEM and Literature, PAGE’s College Admissions Specialist, and Project Facilitators – real scientists, documentary photographers, historians, and digital learning specialists.
With these opportunities, we hope to inspire and educate the next generation of young women in Appalachia to be empowered local and global citizens.

Participants in our Middle School Program benefit from year-round learning opportunities. We focus on place-based learning that integrates literacy, STEM, and the arts with new technology tools. Girls in grades 6-8 are empowered by new skills, new connections, greater self-confidence, and a positive sense of their regional identity.
High School Program
Participants in our High School Program benefit from an expanded menu of year-round learning and mentoring opportunities. These include PageLabsfor girls in grades 9-10 and a new College Pathways opportunity for girls in grades 9-12. NEW for 2022 is a college scholarship opportunity for girls who are committed and engaged participants in our High School Program.
College Internships
Undergraduates from Berea College and Duke University can apply for one of our selective College Internships. Up to six College Interns are selected each year to join our Summer Program team. Our Interns serve as leaders, mentors and tutors, and inspiring role models for girls and young women in Appalachia.
