Spring Creek School

In the summer of 2019, our Oral History team focused on the history of the Spring Creek Community Center, formally known as the Spring Creek School.

This building is made of rocks gathered by local farmers from surrounding fields. For decades it was the center of Spring Creek community life. When the K-12 school closed down in 1989 because of school consolidation, it was a major loss for the community. It sat vacant for about 10 years, when some concerned residents decided to raise money to save the building. They began a major renovation project that has brought new life into this space — the Spring Creek Community Center.

The PAGE girls visited the Community Center and interviewed people who had connections with the building. They heard from former teachers and students, and learned about the effort to renovate the building into a thriving community center.
